1933

Set Up First Sugar Mill in a Small Village called Simbhaoli (U.P)

“Simbhaoli’s first Sugar plant was established in year 1933 by Sardar Raghbir Singh Sandhanwalia (CIE, OBE), the Founder

With an initial crushing capacity of 400 ton crushed per day, in the village that goes by its name, Simbhaoli,it was one of the earliest sugar plants set-up in western Uttar Pradesh during British Raj in India. Over the years, Simbhaoli has continued to set industry standards for technology, product excellence and research and innovation initiatives. Today, it has evolved in to one of the country’s largest Agri-Business and FMCG Companies in India covering the entire value chain from the farmer to the consumer.


1936

Converted into Private Limited Company

The Business, which was initially started as Partnership Firm, was converted into a joint stock
private limited company.


1945

Established Separate Distillery

The Simbhaoli group established another business line as a separate distillery in the form of joint stock private limited company


1950

Corporate Social Responsibility

As the sugar mill grew in size, the Company took various initiatives towards social upliftment of the Simbhaoli town, including for example the establishment of Schools and Agricultural Colleges to provide basic as well as higher education to the children in the neighboring area.


1979

Achieving 10x Growth in Two Decades

In a span of two decades, The Simbhaoli Group had grown 10X, achieving a turnover of Rs. 10 Crore, entering an elite group of business institutions of that time.


1985

Professional Management-Led Growth

In the continued northward movement, the Group not only inducted senior professionals in all functions with experience in major global FMCG and Food majors, but also continued to push forward aggressively, achieving aturnover of Rs. 25 Crore in the year 1985


1989

Turned into a widely held listed public limited company

The Company offered shares to the public in its maiden public issue, and became a widely held Listed Entity with the listing of shares at almost all the recognized Stock Exchanges in India.


1992

Converted into Integrated Sugar Complex

The distillery business merged with sugar business converted Simbhaoli sugar plants into an integrated Sugar complex to achieve greater synergies in the manufacturing operations


1993

Launch of our First Flagship Consumer Brand, Trust

With a brand-conscious approach to provide high quality and hygienic sugar to the consumers, the Company launched packaged sugar under its maiden 'Trust' brand.


1995

The Group CrossesThe Rs. 100 Crore Turnover Mark

Within two decades, the Simbhaoli Groupagain achieved 10x growth, achieving a turnover of Rs. 100 Crore


1996

Set-up the Second Manufacturing Unit in Chilwaria, eastern Uttar Pradesh

Simbhaoli established its 2nd Sugar Mill in Chilwaria, District Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh) with a crushing capacity of 2500 TCD under the joint venture arrangement with Tate & Lyle, London, a British-headquartered sugar refiner and global supplier of food and beverage ingredients.


2002

Amalgamation with the Chilwaria Unit

The Company purchased controlling stake in Chilwaria Sugars Limited and it was eventually merged with the Company.


2003

Entered the Bio-Manure & Agri-Inputs Segment

Under the environment norms to adopt Zero Liquid Discharge, the Company started production of bio-manure under Brand SOM to contribute in Agricultural Production, Environment Protection and Waste Management.

SOM Bio-Organic Manure is a nutrient-rich organic manure for plants. It was introduced for the farmers looking forward to produce Organic food, free from chemical fertilizers.


2004

New Technology Adoption

The Company converted the manufacturing process at Simbhaoli plant from double sulphitation to DRPIE to produce EC grade refined sugar; enhanced the capacity to 7500 TCD; and became a producer of high quality premium sugar.


2005

Specialty Foods Division and 5x Growth in 10 Years

Within a decade of having achieved a turnover of Rs. 100 crore, theCompany achieved turnover of Rs. 500 Crore, delivering 5x growth in a decade to its shareholders. The Company also created a Specialty FoodsDivision, with capability to produce Pharmaceutical Grade Sugar, Candy, Sugar Cubes, Natural MineralBrownSugar and various other products, becoming the first company in North India producing the entire spectrum of sugar and sugar-based products.


2006

Set-up 3rd Manufacturing and Processing Unit in Brijnathpur, Western Uttar Pradesh

Within a decade of having achieved a turnover of Rs. 100 crore, theCompany achieved turnover of Rs. 500 Crore, delivering 5x growth in a decade to its shareholders. The Company also created a Specialty FoodsDivision, with capability to produce Pharmaceutical Grade Sugar, Candy, Sugar Cubes, Natural MineralBrownSugar and various other products, becoming the first company in North India producing the entire spectrum of sugar and sugar-based products.


2007

Expansion of Co-Generation Power Capacity Through its Clean Energy Division

As part of the Government’s efforts to push clean and renewable energy, Simbhaoli significantly expanded the capacity of its biomass-based co-generation power plant at Simbhaoli.

Continued Push of Consumer Brands and Health Product range

The Company continued its push into the FMCG segment with a range of healthier range of products to adapt to the changing consumer preferences. The Company had also by now become the leader in the Sachet Segment, being the key supplier to the largest airlines and hospitality players in India and South Asia. In the retail category, the flagship Trust brand continued to strengthen its position in markets across India with new product launches such as diamond-shaped candy being introduced for the first time in India as Trust Classic Pure Mishri. Further, the Company’s Institutional Customer base had grown rapidly in the past decade to include global FMCG and pharma majors such as Nestle, Novartis, Sun Pharma and Danone.


2008

Further Manufacturing Capacity Expansionand Expanded Global Footprint

The Company completed a phase of significant capacity expansion at each of its Units to cater to both the fast-growth in the consumer markets in India and abroad. Exports of its products to various countries in South East Asia, Africa and the Middle East had also become a significant part of the Company’s footprint.

The Company was also accredited to the recognition of its sustained export efforts as Star Export House, from the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. As part of its focus on being a high quality, premium player in the segment, the Company also became the first sugar company in North India and only the Second in India to receive FSSC 22000:2011 certification.


2009

Beverages Division Enters the Millionaires Club; New Product Launches Continue

The Company achieve the target of one million cases of various brands of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) segment. The Company also launched flavoured variant of 'Xing', Vodka in India to cater to the demands of the younger generation of consumers.

Continued Global Foray and Fast Paced Growth

In less than 5 years, the Company doubled its turnover achieving a turnover of Rs. 1000 crores, driven by significant capacity expansion in recent years, growth of its sales and marketing teams for both the domestic and export markets, and higher emphasis on FMCG products. The Company also established a wholly-owned subsidiary in Dubai to foray in the international trading of various products.


2010

Beverages Division Continues to Expand; Techno-Commercial Engineering Division Launched

The Company achieved record production levels, driven by consumer demand, and turnover level reached nearly Rs 1500 Crore, capping a decade of hyper-growth. The Company’s Beverages Division also launched its new product range of fruit drinks under the brand name, SIPP, marking the Company’s entry into the non-alcoholic beverages segment. With significant technology and engineering experience, the Company also started its Techno-Commercial Engineering Consulting Division for providing technical,commercial and engineering services.

Solutions to manufacturing industries globally, with a special focus on emerging economies in Africa and South-East Asia. The Company also initiated a major farmer-focused development programme aimed at enhancingcrop yields and the quality of the agricultural produce, with the objective of ultimately enhancing the farmers’ income levels and also boosting the quality of raw materials being procured from thousands of farmers.


2012

Established Sugar Plant near Kandla Port

In continuation to its strong group of global partners, the Company in a 50:50 joint venture arrangement with ED &F Man Sugar, London, UK, a 150 years old global agricultural commodities major, establisheda 1000 TPD capacity greenfield Raw Sugar Refinery near Kandla Port in Gujarat.

New Premium Beverage Brands Launched

The Company aggressively introduced new Liquor Brands (Board’s Verdict, and Xing) and also tied up with established International brands (such as Pravda) to gain a stronger footholdamongst the young consumer in India.


2013

Joint Venture with Global Clean Energy Developer and Operator

The Company entered into a JV with a leading Singapore and London-based global developer and operator of clean energy projects worldwide to expand its power business.

Coca Cola Strategic Supplier Award

The Company’s long-standing relationships with various global institutional customersgot recognition by Coca Cola, who awarded Simbhaoli withits“Strategic Supplier Award”, serving as a testament to Simbhaoli’s focus on customer-centricity, emphasis on the highest quality, and commitment to global benchmarks of service.


2015

Amalgamation of Various Manufacturing Business Units

The Company merged with its wholly owned subsidiary to consolidate the various manufacturing units under one parent organization to achieve greater synergies of operational excellence across multiple manufacturing segments.


2017

The Company’s FMCG Business Continues to Grow Rapidly

The Company had over the last few decades developed and launched various successful brands, with a common focus on quality and consumer satisfaction, across the staples, food, and beverages category. In addition to the flagship brand, Trust, the portfolio had expanded considerably to include popular brands such as SIPP and Sunehra. As part of its continued focus on changing consumer needs, the Company also launched its newest brand, G-Low (a play on the Hindi words, Ji Lo), with products targeted at the growing pre-diabetic and diabetic population in India. G-Low products are lab-tested for being low on the Glycemic Index (Low GI), which ensures that blood sugar levels of consumers do not spike. Given India’s massive population with a pre-disposition towards diabetes, G-Low represented the Company’s entry into the consumer health and wellness segment as well.


2020

Launch of the Home and Personal Care Division; Changing Business Models in the Context of COVID-19

In line with its DNA of consumer-centric products and continued response to changing consumer needs, Simbhaoli launched its Home and Personal Care Divison (HPC), with an entire range of Trust Hand Sanitizers &Multi-Surface Disinfectants to help the nation, and especially its rural districts, combat the COVID – 19 Pandemic. As consumption patterns change due to factors such as COVID, the Company has continued its emphasis on new channels of distribution such as online marketplaces, direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, and expanded rural distribution.
